The National Park d’Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici is one of the 14 parks that exist in the country. The only one you can visit in Catalonia.

It is one of the Quaternary glaciers that repeatedly covered Europe. It manifests on the summits creating circuses, hanging valleys and ponds, one of the most unique figures in the park.

It is located in the northwest corner of Catalonia, in the province of Lleida, in the heart of the Pyrenees. It covers part of the Alta Ribagorça, Pallars Sobirà, Val d’Aran and Pallars Jussà regions.

In this place, the liquid can be found in different manifestations: lakes, rivers, waterfalls, etc.

In 2018 it was visited by half a million people, and its appeal is such that it is an almost mandatory stop. Therefore, we leave you with five routes to be able to squeeze the visit to the fullest.

Five routes of the National Park

Five routes indicated in which you can observe characteristic plant species such as black pine, fleur de lis or multicolored fir:

 

#1. Route of the St Nicholas riverside

It is one of the best known routes in the Park. In about 3 hours, you will go through such attractive places as the  Sant Esperit waterfall, the Estany de Llebreta or the Planell d’Aigüestortes.

 

#2. Groundhog Route

Chosen mainly by climbers. In it you will find the main peaks above 3,000 meters of the Park. In an average of two and a half hours, you will tour the Cavallers reservoir, the Riumalo Waterfall and the Estany Negre.

 

#3. Route to the Agulles d’Amitges

Three hours of climb to finally arrive at Estany d’Amitges. Along the way you will be able to witness the Sant Maurici Lake, the waterfall and Ratera Lake.

 

#4. Route of the Circ de Colomers

An itinerary that begins in Banhs de Tredòs to the Lac de Colomers. A route only suitable for those who have a good physical background, because the estimated time is six and a half hours.

 

#5. Route of the Vall Fosca Ponds

Two and a half hours of ascent and a slope of 580 meters. You will have to use the cableway to join the section between the Sallente dam and Gento Lake.
