Opening with a look at history

The Catalan Slalom Cup will be the first competitive activity today.

Since 50 years isn't something that happens every day, the opening ceremony of the Noguera Pallaresa International Rally, held yesterday in Sort, focused on looking back at this half-century of history, marking the anniversary of this classic event in the Pallars Sobirà region. The Rally's opening took place at the Sort Regional Tourist Office, which is hosting an exhibition commemorating these 50 years of activity until October 13th. Two of its pioneers, Eliseu Gairí and Vicenç Morea, who were present at the very first edition, attended the event, along with participants from different eras.

The event, presented by actress Ivana Miño, featured speeches by Carme Maria Marugán, director of the Pallars Sobirà Regional Archive; Guillem Puras, president of AE Pallars; Patrick Torrent, deputy director of the Catalan Tourism Agency; Xavier Pont, from the Provincial Council; Enric Cobo, from the General Coordination of Archives, and the mayor of Sort, Llàtzer Sibís.

Following the speeches, a portion of the audiovisual presentation on display at the exhibition was shown. The exhibition, divided into two main sections, has already been visited by approximately 200 people. The event concluded with a musical performance by the Bridges Trio.

Today marks the first competition in the extensive program: the Catalan Slalom Cup, in the open category, which will feature around 150 paddlers. The Rally will conclude on the 27th.
