Climate and vegetation of Pallars Sobirà: from Mediterranean to Alpine.

a green field with mountains in the background.
El Pallars has a distinctly Mediterranean climate up to 1,500 m. Above this elevation, we find an alpine climate.

The heights, the different slopes of the abrupt relief and this particular climate, configure a vegetation with five distinct levels: the basal level (from 600 m to 1,000 m), with holm oaks and oaks; the montane level (from 100 m to 1,600 m), with oaks, beeches, firs and Scots pine; the subalpine level (from 1,600 m to 2,200 m), with black pine; the alpine level (from 2,200 m to 2,800 m), with grasslands; and the nival level (from 2,800 m onwards), with little herbage and a lot of rock.

Most of the area surrounding the villages is still made up of hay meadows , despite the clear decline in the agricultural sector.

There are some recognized forests such as the Mata de València fir forest, the Virós and Bonabé forests, the Ancs and Baiasca birch forests, etc.
