The entire Pallars Sobirà area has always been a purely livestock and agricultural region, which has conditioned the festivals and traditions of the place, which until very recently have mainly followed this cycle.
A few years ago the meetings were held during the month of May, just before the sheep shearing and the marking of the herds to take them up to the high mountains. The local fairs were held during the autumn months, which coincided with the sheep coming down, while the local festivals are held during the winter months, since that was when the villagers barely had work to do.
But all this has changed in recent years due to tourism, so that different modifications have been made to the dates on which the major festivals are celebrated, moving them to the summer months. And it is precisely in the summer months when the number of visitors is much greater. It is also important to note that some fairs have disappeared with the change of times.
Among the most relevant festivals of the place, it is necessary to take into account dates such as Carnival (where its exquisite Carnival filling, its calderades, as well as the Passa cannot be missed), the Christmas season (a purely family celebration), as well as Easter (rich meals are held).
With the arrival of summer, the villagers get ready to celebrate a popular festival known as the Falles d'Isil i d'Alins. But it doesn't end there, as during the good weather, multiple festivities and social, cultural and sporting events typical of the Pallars Sobirà area are also held.
Nor can the festival celebrated in the town of Sort on June 24th be overlooked, a popular festival where the villagers set off with torches carrying out a night march from the mountain to the town. This tradition is worth seeing, since once the villagers arrive in the town, they all celebrate a great popular dinner.
It is important to say that a large part of the Lleida regions celebrate their major festivals during the month of August, a month in which the calendar of events is full of good alternatives for all tastes, ranging from concert cycles to traditional activities.
