Traditionally, Pallars Sobirá had been a region dedicated specifically to subsistence agriculture and livestock farming. In the past, resources were also obtained from forestry and mining operations, most notably the iron mines of Vall Ferrera.
Another important chapter was the Gerri de la Sal salt mines and, more recently, the establishment of hydroelectric plants. For some years now, the primary sector has declined in importance, while the tertiary sector, based on tourism, has grown. The region's tourist attractions include its historical heritage, beautiful landscapes, and the opportunity to engage in various outdoor sports (fishing, adventure sports, winter sports, hiking, etc.).
