Fable – Patience and Hope – Lottery

Fable about patience and hope, excellent to understand
Why the lottery in Sort is still one of the most deeply rooted traditions today
in our country and why so many people play year after year with a smile:

Many years ago, a shepherd lived in Sort with two sheep and his two lambs. Every night, the shepherd sheltered them from the cold and wind in a small shed next to his humble mountain home, where they could sleep peacefully without fear of being hunted by the wolves that roamed the area.

And every morning, the shepherd would leave the older sheep in the green meadows of Sort so they could run and graze freely.

One day, the sheep strayed from the shepherd and crossed a small stream, a tributary of the Noguera Pallaresa River. They had fun, playing with each other and grazing, paying no attention to the flow, which had increased dramatically after a few hours. When they realized they couldn't cross the waters, which were no longer calm but strong and dangerous, they became nervous and began to bleat desperately.

A few minutes later the shepherd reached the opposite shore, but there was little he could do since the waters were also dangerous for him.

One of the sheep began to get impatient and said between sobs:

- The river will not recede. If night comes, the shepherd will leave without us, and if the wolves kill us, our lambs will die of hunger!

Her partner tried to calm her down and replied:

– Don't lose hope. The shepherd adores us and will never leave us. Besides, we've seen before how sometimes rivers rise and the waters always return. We'll soon be back with our lambs.

But his wise words were of no use. The first sheep could wait no longer, and after walking a few steps, the raging waters swept it downstream, under the helpless gaze of the shepherd who watched the sad scene from the opposite bank.

A few hours later, at dusk, the waters gradually receded, and the shepherd, who until then had been sitting on a rock, was able to carefully cross over and rescue the other sheep, who was also patiently waiting on the other side.

Finally at home, the shepherd reunited the surviving sheep with her baby lamb and the orphan lamb who accepted her as an adoptive mother.

The moral of this fable is quite simple:

Without hope it is impossible to have patience, because no one expects the impossible and hope
The strongest is the one born in the most difficult situations. You have to be patient and never
lose hope, because everything comes in its own time.
