Snow depth and quality are increasing at ski areas, with up to half a meter expected this week.
Snowfall since Saturday night in the Pyrenees has left up to 15 centimeters of snow at Lleida ski resorts. This was reported by industry sources, who noted that the new precipitation forecast throughout this week could accumulate up to half a meter, which will contribute to improving conditions at the ski areas.
It's worth remembering that only Baqueira-Beret and Tavascan currently have virtually all of their piste surfaces open. The accumulation of snow made it necessary to use chains for driving on the Bonaigua Pass and the access road to Pla de Beret throughout the day.
This new rainfall may give the resorts of Boí Taüll, Espot, Port-Ainé, and Port del Comte the opportunity to open new slopes and consolidate the snow cover on those already open. All of them still had more than a third of their slopes closed last week. In the case of Tavascan, Lladorre resort officials indicated that the snowfall also means an improvement in the quality of the snow: it will go from hard powder to powder, making it more attractive for skiers. Baqueira, for its part, announced the opening of its entire slopes early last week.
Firefighters were dispatched to Pont de Suert to remove accumulated snow from the roof of the municipal sports center around 11:00 a.m. This was reported by the emergency services and the city council, who stated that this was a preventive measure to prevent the building's roof from bearing additional weight, and that most of the snow melted with the rain throughout the afternoon.
It also rained throughout the day in the regions of the plan. Weather forecasts indicate the possibility of snowfall in the Pyrenean regions, at least until next Thursday.
