This route runs through the Siarb valley, which runs from the port of Cantó to the banks of the Noguera Pallaresa. There are still unusual corners to discover around Soriguera.
The route through the Soriguera valley, formerly known as the Siarb valley, begins in Sort. It can be reached from La Seu d'Urgell along the N-260 road towards Port del Cantó. Less than ten kilometres from Sort, along the same N-260 towards La Seu d'Urgell, is Vilamur, the old nerve centre of the valley which preserves, in its parish church dedicated to the Mare de Déu de la Medina, a Romanesque door and apse. We continue along the same road and, at km 19.6, we reach the Santa Creu hill and its archaeological site; we park the car and walk up it.
This site, the highest in Catalonia, preserves the remains of an ancient settlement dating back to 1500 BC and which was definitively abandoned between the 12th and 13th centuries. Remains of house walls, alleys, a defensive wall, a circular tower, two moats cut into the rock and a church have been recovered.
Then, we go back along the N-260 road to head, taking a left turn, to Llagunes, where there is the Nature Trails Centre and the Monographic Museum of the Medieval Depopulated Site of Santa Creu de les Llagunes. We return to the main road (the N-260). A little further on, we must take another left turn that leads to Soriguera, a village staggered on the mountainside due to the narrowness of the Cantó river valley. From there, a paved track leads to Puiforniu.
We cross Puiforniu, a village clustered around the church of Santa Cecília, and we reach the junction of the track with the LV-5131 road, which goes up from Hostal Nou. We must turn left towards Tornafort.
The old town of Tornafort is located on top of a hill. Then, when you take the same LV-5131 road again to exit onto the N-260 and go down again to Sort, there is a left-hand turnoff that leads to Malmercat, where a remarkable stately building known as the Bielsa Castle is preserved.
