The town of Sort is hosting the International Open and Spanish Freestyle Kayak Championship starting this Thursday, as part of the 50th Noguera Pallaresa International Rally, which will feature top Spanish specialists and a broad representation of international experts in this discipline. The preliminary rounds in all four categories took place yesterday, and the first semifinals will begin today.
First place in the K1 cadet category went to Mikel Puldain, with a score of 383, ahead of Aran Balagueró (249) and Nando Cortés, who finished with 90 points. In the K1 junior category, first place went to Dani Gallego, with 500 points. The podium was completed by Ian Salvat (436) and Frenchman Lucien Schreiber (230). The K1 senior women's category preliminaries were also held, with victory for Frenchwoman Marlene Devillez (509), ahead of Nuria Fontané (336) and fellow Frenchwoman Pauline Sourrouille (210).
Finally, in the C1 senior men's category, Harri Sola was the highest ranked, with a score of 113, ahead of Nuria Fontané, who also participated in this event, and Quim Fontané.
The Sort International Freestyle Open will feature the participation of great specialists, such as the British James Bebbington, world champion in 2011 in the K1 category, the American Dane Jackson, also world champion in 2011 in K1 junior, and the French Matieu Dumolin, several times European champion in K1
