We're in the middle of ski season! Taking advantage of the holidays to visit the snow and ski has become a tradition for many couples and families.
That's why today we wanted to tell you about all the ski areas you can find near our wonderful hotel.
Pallars de Sobirá is one of the best areas to practice this sport. This is because it's located among beautiful, high mountains with abundant snow. If you're staying at Hotel les Brases, you should know that resorts like Port Ainé, Tavascán, and Baqueira Beret are very close by.
How did it all begin?
Pallars de Sobirá is a ski resort that has been around for quite some time. Documents indicate that ski trials began in February and March of 1919 around the Estany de Sant Maurici and around Port de la Bonaigua.
However, it was about 40 years later that the first ski resort with lifts was built.
We are talking about Llessui, the first station that was inaugurated in the Pallaresa mountains in December 1966. Not much later, the Espot station was opened (1967) and years later the Port Ainé station in 1997. The next to appear, 10 years later, was the Tavascán station.
Finally, and more recently, the connection from Baqueira Beret to Pallars was opened via the La Peülla chairlift. Thanks to this new inauguration, the villages of Les Valls d'Àneu were accessible.
Knowing all this, we realize the importance of Pallars and its influence on all lovers of this snow sport. One of its greatest strengths is the versatility of alpine skiers, backed by an incredible track record in this discipline that is still improving and evolving.
Today, the four closest stations, which we will explore in more depth, complement each other perfectly.
Ski Spot
We're talking about the oldest resort in the area. It has 25 kilometers of slopes and is the ideal destination for those looking for a mid-range spot, as it's a safe bet thanks to its reputation and history. These slopes are located just 3 kilometers from Espot.
We can say that the Espot resort has a more competitive and professional skiing atmosphere.
Port Ainé
Port Ainé is a place where the snow remains very stable year-round due to the microclimate that develops in its surroundings. This is its most notable feature, and regular skiers who frequent the area emphasize it: its snow level and quality are the main reason they return. Another strong point is its large access road.
It has 27 kilometers of slopes and is typically a young crowded area. For more peace and quiet, stay in Sort; it also offers many more opportunities off the slopes.
The Port Ainé area is best known for its predominant snowboarding scene and is a favorite with young people and university students.

Tavascan
The Tavascán resort is the smallest of all. It's very cozy and authentic, allowing you to glide down the slopes and enjoy nature in its purest state. It only has a single chairlift, which passes through a high valley. Its road is very narrow, but it won't leave you indifferent, as it's unique and entertaining. An ideal resort for the more adventurous.
The Tavascán resort is the perfect destination for mountain lovers seeking peace and quiet while enjoying nature.
The Peülla-Baqueira-Beret
The last station to reach the Pallars de Sobirà area was Baqueira. Not everyone is familiar with this route, as it's considered a back entrance, providing greater convenience and ease of access. The opening of this station is great news, as it represents a significant opportunity for tourism and the economy of the surrounding towns.
To reach it, you just have to hop on a series of chairlifts—three in total. However, there's another option for those who prefer less hustle and bustle: you can relax skiing on the slopes in the La Peülla, Bonaigua, and Argulls areas.
Baqueira is the largest, most famous, and most commercial ski resort, especially for those traveling with a large group.
In short, the Pallars de Sobirà area has some wonderful and popular ski resorts, all of which appeal to their audiences due to their different qualities and characteristics, giving you the option to choose the one that best suits your needs.
