Very close to our hotel is a magical place dedicated to spreading hope, dreams, and, above all, lots of money. Starting this month, the famous Bruixa d'Or administration begins distributing, as it does every year, its coveted national lottery tickets for the annual draw held on December 22nd and January 6th.
The birth of good luck
La Bruixa d'Or was founded in 1986 by its owner, Xavier Gabriel, in Sort. Before it was renamed, the establishment had other names, such as "Stop," and it wasn't until 1992 that it was renamed La Bruixa d'Or. The name comes from a small statue of a golden witch that Gabriel bought in a souvenir shop.
Two years after it was renamed, the Bruixa d'Or managed to distribute the national lottery's top prize, "El Niño," for the first time. Its luck didn't end with this first prize, as its tickets were also awarded in 1996, 1998, and 2000 in this same draw. However, it wasn't until three years later (2003) that it became the most famous lottery shop in all of Spain by distributing the top prize in the Extraordinary Christmas Lottery, the popular "El Gordo," which it distributed again not only in 2004 but also in 2007. Since that day, thousands of people have come to the town to buy a bit of luck at the famous lottery shop so that the Bruixa d'Or may bestow upon them a bit of its powerful magic.

It's not enough to just buy!
They say luck is for those who seek it. Many of the curious people who come to Sort on vacation end up buying a few tenth-day tickets as a souvenir of our town. We mustn't forget that one of the legends tells us that for true luck to be with you, you must rub the purchased ticket between your nose and the broomstick of the famous golden witch.
