The Alt Pirineu Natural Park is a beautiful and large natural space that allows all those who enter the place to have a good contact with the superb natural environment of the region as well as the interesting artistic and cultural heritage. The Alt Pirineu Natural Park is part of Pallars Sobirà and Alt Urgel, managing to occupy an important part of the area of the central Catalan Pyrenees of Lleida.
With its more than 698 km2, the Alt Pirineu Natural Park is the largest natural park in all of Catalonia. This park was created in 2003 to preserve the natural, historical and cultural wealth that reigns in the region. In this amazing park, one of the activities par excellence is undoubtedly hiking, and it is not surprising, since this region has an infinity of trails and itineraries that run through some of the most peaceful and idyllic valleys of Pallars Sobirà.
In this park there is an extensive network of itineraries to explore the park on foot that are perfectly signposted. It is worth noting that most of the routes that you will find in this natural park are very easy routes, routes that do not present a high level of difficulty for its visitors, although it is important to say that many of them are advisable to do in periods when there is no snow on the route.
The Alt Pirineu Natural Park, together with the Boumort National Hunting Reserve and the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, have turned the beautiful and green Pallars Sobirà region into one of the most protected regions of Catalonia and the Pyrenees today.
One of the most famous routes in the place is the Route of the Sanctuaries, a very easy and simple route that is very pleasant, a perfect route to do with the whole family.
The duration is approximately one and a half hours, a path that runs from Gerri de la Sal to Bar and has a slight difference in altitude that reaches approximately 150 meters. Along the entire route you can see places of special interest such as the Monastery of Santa Maria, the Hermitage of the Mare de Déu de l'Arbre, the Casa de la Sal, the walled town or the Romanesque bridge.
Another of the most popular paths in the place is the Walk through the Enchanted Forest, a route that lasts approximately three hours in total. This route is divided into two parts, on the one hand, from Peramea to Balestiu (50 minutes) and on the other hand from Balestiu to La Borda de Cossant (2 hours), the first of the paths being very flat and simple, while the second has a slightly steeper slope, but without major complications for its completion.
The maximum elevation gain is 350 meters. During the route you will enjoy truly amazing panoramic views and vegetation of great beauty, a route where you can enjoy contemplating monuments such as the Colomers tower, the church of Sant Cristofol or the Castle rock.
