TO THE PICO DE AMITGES AND THE TUC DE SABOREDO
Discover two of the great viewpoints of Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park: Amitges Peak (2,848 m) and Tuc de Saboredo (2,829 m), one of the most iconic high-mountain routes in the Catalan Pyrenees.
This is a long and demanding 21 km hike with a total elevation gain of 1,500 m, recommended for experienced hikers. The route starts at the Prat de Pierró car park, inside the National Park. From here, you ascend the Escrita River valley to Lake Sant Maurici, one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Pyrenees.
You follow the northern shore of the lake and continue uphill along the Ratera Waterfall trail, joining the track that leads to the Amitges Mountain Refuge. After skirting Lake Gran de Amitges, you climb the Coma de Amitges to the mountain pass, where you first summit Amitges Peak and then reach the Tuc de Saboredo.
The descent takes you past the small saddle between Tuc de Saboredo and the Agulles de Amitges, down to Lake Munyidera, and back to the Amitges Refuge. You then return to Lake Sant Maurici and follow the Escrita Valley back to Prat de Pierró.
This classic alpine route offers stunning scenery, from riverside forests and glacial lakes to waterfalls, alpine meadows and granite ridges—an unforgettable experience for mountain and hiking enthusiasts in the Lleida Pyrenees.
