ANEU VALLEYS ECO-MUSESUM
Travel back in time at Casa Gassia.
In June 1994, the Ecomuseum of the Àneu Valleys opened to the public. Today, this institution is a vibrant entity that, through research, conservation, dissemination, and restoration of our integral heritage, seeks to participate in and influence the economic and social development of the Àneu Valleys and, also, the development of the rest of Pallars.
The Ecomuseum was born from a new museological and museographic approach, where visitors actively and participatively immerse themselves in the way of life in the Pallars region at the beginning of the 20th century. Unlike traditional museums, the Ecomuseum does not attempt to house its entire exhibition within a single building, but rather extends throughout the territory with the aim of explaining life in the valleys.
The fundamental parts of the museum are spread across the heritage centers; the centers are spread throughout the villages of the Àneu valleys and, currently, the following centers can be visited: Casa Gassia, the hydraulic sawmill of Alòs d'Isil, the monumental complex of Son and the Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere del Burgal (12th century) of Escaló.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
How to get there: Esterri d'Àneu is located between the C-13 and C-28 roads and the Ecomuseum headquarters is in the old town of the village.
