GASSIA HOUSE
ANEU VALLEYS ECO-MUSESUM
Travel back in time at Casa Gassia.
In June 1994, the Ecomuseum of the Àneu Valleys opened to the public. Today, this institution is a living entity that, through research, conservation, dissemination, and the restoration of our comprehensive heritage, aims to participate in and impact the economic and social development of the Àneu valleys and, also, the development of the rest of the Pallars region.
The Ecomuseum was born from a new museological and museographic concept, where visitors can immerse themselves, in an active and participatory way, in the ways of life in Pallars at the beginning of the century. Unlike traditional museums, the Ecomuseum does not attempt to contain its entire exhibition within a single building, but rather extends throughout the entire area with the aim of explaining life in the valleys.
The museum's core components are spread across the heritage centers; these are located throughout the villages in the Àneu valleys, and the following sites are currently open to visitors: Casa Gassia, the hydraulic sawmill in Alòs d'Isil, the monumental complex in Son, and the 12th-century Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere del Burgal in Escaló.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm and 5pm-8pm.
How to get there: Esterri d'Àneu is located between the C-13 and C-28 highways, and the Ecomuseum is located in the old town.
Address: Carrer del Camp, 22-24. (Gassia House)
25580 Esterri d'Àneu (Esterri d'Àneu)
Telephone: 973 626 436
