HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT
The Tavascan Interpretation Centre was created to showcase a pivotal aspect of the modern history of electricity in Catalonia: the construction of the Alt Cardós Valley hydroelectric complex in the 1960s and 70s. Starting with a historical overview of the area, the center describes the construction and operation, within the mountains, of the Tavascan and Montamara hydroelectric power plants, as well as the extensive hydraulic system that provides them with the necessary flow rates, including reservoirs, pipelines, and technical facilities.
It also includes a chronological summary of the construction of all hydroelectric power plants in Catalonia (with a capacity greater than 5 MW), complemented by information on hydroelectric power generation in general. A visit to the Espai FECSA ENDESA inside the Tavascan power plant is also included, showcasing the impressive scale of the construction work and the live operation of its facilities.
