LES VERNEDES
Very easy and beautiful walking tour.
The Sort and Vall d'Àssua Nature Trail is comprised of a series of routes designed around a main path divided into six sections, between the towns of Sort, Olp, Altron, Sauri, Llessui, Les Bordes de Llessui, and Pas de Mainera. Connected to this main path are up to twelve secondary routes, such as the Les Vernedes trail, a circular route that begins in the town center of Sort and is approximately 6 km long.
This 6 km route is an ideal place for walks, whether on foot, by bike or on horseback.
The route leaves the Tros de Sort cheese factory and continues along the edge of the Noguera Pallaresa mountain range. When we reach a crossroads, the trail enters the Vernedes area, characterized by poplar plantations used as timber for paper production. This area was once a large riparian forest dominated by alder (hence the name "aliseda") and other plant species associated with the presence of water. A good example of this vegetation can still be found on the other side of the river, in the "aliseda de Montardit" (indret), which is part of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park.
Here we present some photographs showing this wonderful landscape of the Vernedes de Sort region, with its flora and fauna.
