LES VERNEDES

An easy and beautiful walking excursion.

The Sort and Vall d'Àssua Nature Trail comprises a network of paths along a main route divided into six sections, connecting the towns of Sort, Olp, Altron, Sauri, Llessui, Les Bordes de Llessui, and Pas de Mainera. Connected to this main path are up to twelve secondary routes, such as the Les Vernedes trail, a circular route starting in the town center of Sort and covering approximately 6 km.

This 6 km route is an ideal place for walks, whether on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback.

The route starts at the Tros de Sort cheese factory and continues along the banks of the Noguera Pallaresa river. At a crossroads, the path enters the Vernedes area, characterized by poplar plantations for use as timber in paper production. This area was once a large riparian forest dominated by alder (hence the name “aliseda” or “alder grove”) and other plant species associated with water. A good example of this vegetation can still be found on the other side of the river, in the area known as the Montardit alder grove, which is part of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park.
