LAKE MONTCORTÉS
This beautiful lake is of karst, not glacial, origin and is the only lake of its kind in the Pyrenees. It has a perimeter of 1,320 m and covers 43 hectares. Its waters come from an internal spring whose depth varies depending on the season, but always ranges between 20 and 40 meters. This lake is included in the PEIN (Plan for Areas of Natural Interest) and is one of the most important reserves for aquatic and migratory birds in the Pyrenees (osprey, common snipe, and mallard).
It also contains a diverse range of flora and fauna, some of which are rarely seen in the Pyrenees. Several hiking trails can be followed from the lake, as well as swimming and fishing. How to get there: From Gerri de la Sal, heading towards Sort, take the regional road that turns left towards La Pobleta de Bellveii. The lake is 12 km away.
