LAKE MONTCORTÉS
This beautiful lake, of karst rather than glacial origin, is the only one in the Pyrenees with these characteristics. It has a perimeter of 1,320 meters and a surface area of 43 hectares. Its waters come from an internal spring and reach a depth that varies depending on the time of year, always ranging between 20 and 40 meters.
It is included in the PEIN (Plan of Spaces of Natural Interest) and is one of the most important reserves of aquatic and migratory birds in the Pyrenees, with species such as the osprey, the common snipe or the mallard.
Furthermore, it boasts a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna, with species rarely found elsewhere in the Pyrenees. From the lake, visitors can enjoy various hiking trails, as well as swimming and fishing.
How to get there: From Gerri de la Sal, heading towards Sort, take the local road that branches off to the left towards La Pobleta de Bellveí. The lake is 12 km away.
