RURAL TOURISM IN LLEIDA
These are the main places and events of interest in Pallars Sobirà.
Authentic rural tourism in Lleida can be found in the landscapes along the Noguera Pallaresa River and the Aigüestortes National Park, in the heart of the Pallars Sobirà region. Sort is located in the center of the valley, on the banks of the Noguera Pallaresa River. Not long ago, the valley was rich in walnut trees, hence the name "Noguera," and Pallars Sobirà means the upper part of the Pallars region. Pallars Sobirà is the full name of the region, which lies between 700 and 2,500 meters above sea level, covers an area of 105 km², and has a permanent population of 3,500.
The population mostly lives in various small villages, all surrounding the valley. Along the valley, you'll find numerous 15th-century Romanesque buildings, as well as the walls of the castle that once housed the Counts of Pallars. You can also enjoy a wide variety of artisanal products: cheeses, cakes, and even local sausages.
The Noguera Pallaresa river is considered the best whitewater river in Europe. As such, it hosts some of the most prestigious international canoeing competitions. From our village, you can easily access a wide range of sports and rural tourism activities in Lleida, such as rafting, climbing, hiking, and the alpine and snowboard resorts, as well as cross-country ski resorts. Among the slopes in our valley are:
Port Ainé 20 min.
Spot 30 min.
Tavascan 30 min away
Baqueira-Beret, Spain's best alpine ski resort, is 30 minutes away. Located 2,500 meters above sea level. Every Tuesday is market day in the village of Sort, where local artisans and farmers gather.
One of the popular festivals in the village of Sort is the nighttime torchlight procession from the mountain down to the village every June 24th. It's a truly admirable tradition, and once they arrive, the crowd celebrates their return with a hearty communal dinner.
