RURAL TOURISM IN LLEIDA
These are the main places and events of interest in Pallars Sobirà.
Authentic "rural tourism in Lleida" can be found in the landscapes along the Noguera Pallaresa River and the Aigüestortes National Park, in the heart of the Pallars Sobirà region. Sort is located in the center of the valley, on the banks of the Noguera Pallaresa River. The valley was, not long ago, rich in walnut trees—which means walnut tree, and Pallars Sobirà means the upper part of the Pallars region. Pallars Sobirà is the full name of the region, which lies between 700 and 2,500 meters above sea level, covers an area of 105 km², and is home to 3,500 people.
The majority of the population lives in various small villages, all around the valley. Throughout the valley, you'll find numerous 15th-century Romanesque buildings and the walls of the castle, the former residence of the Counts of Pallars. You can also appreciate the variety of artisanal products on offer: cheeses, cakes, and even local sausages.
The Noguera Pallaresa River is rated the best whitewater river in Europe. As such, it hosts the most renowned international canoeing competitions. From our village: You'll have access to Lleida's sporting and rural tourism activities, such as rafting, climbing, hiking, and alpine and snowboard ski resorts and cross-country ski resorts. Among the slopes in our valley are:
· Port Aine 20 min.
· Spot at 30 min.
· Tavascan at 30 min
Baqueira Beret is 30 minutes away, the best alpine ski resort in Spain. Located at 2,500 meters above sea level, the village of Sort hosts market day every Tuesday, bringing together local artisans and farmers.
One of the popular festivals of the Sort villagers is the night march every June 24th, carrying torches from the mountain to the village. It's a tradition worthy of admiration, and once they reach the village, the crowd celebrates their arrival with a hearty communal dinner.
