Gerri de la Sal

SALT MUSEUM

The Gerri Salt Museum is located in the former salt warehouse. The building consists of a roughly square floor plan of 650 m² per floor, with three floors and an attic. On the ground floor, you'll discover how salt is made if we're so far from the sea!

The museum consists of three parts divided into four naves. In the first two naves, you'll learn about the work carried out in the warehouse: the mixing, weighing, the types of salt they made, and how it was distributed. In the third nave, through four audiovisuals and four models, you'll discover the work carried out in the salt mine: from the moment the water leaves the spring and what had to be done to transform this water into salt. You'll also learn how salt was processed in Gerri and where the salt was stored during production. Finally, in the last nave, there's a 5-minute audiovisual that explains how salt was made in Gerri and why it had to be abandoned. The museum also has a farm shop with regional products such as Gerri ratafia, Roser salt, Noguera Pallaresa biscuits, natural soaps, and many other products.

Come discover how salt is made in one of the few inland salt mines in Catalonia!
