THE CASTLE OF SORT
The town of Sort (692 m above sea level), the center of the Pallars Sobirà region, stretches out across the valley floor, on the right bank of the Noguera Pallaresa mountain range. To the west are the large circular towers, the 15th-century Gothic façade, and the walls of Sort Castle, which has recently undergone a major renovation, with the opening of a multipurpose space inside that houses various exhibitions and activities.
The town expanded at the foot of this complex, following the river's path to Carrer Major and the Raval, where the Plaza Mayor, presided over by the parish church of Sant Feliu, connects the town. At the beginning of the 20th century, during the construction of the road from Balaguer to the Valle d'Àneu, the river was diverted, allowing for the creation of Riuet Park and the construction of a new neighborhood between the town and the new course of the river and the Paseo de la Pallissa.
In recent decades, Sort has expanded to the north with the creation of the La Solana neighborhood, to the east with the Borda de Paisan development, and to the south with the creation of an industrial facilities zone around the Les Vernedes sector.
