BATTLLIU DE SORT WINERY
Five friends, passionate about wine and the Pallars Sobirà region, decided to revive the winemaking tradition in the municipality of Sort and bring back to life an activity that had been lost for more than two centuries. On the Barreró estate, formerly owned by the Counts of Pallars, they planted six hectares in 2007 with Viognier, Riesling, and Pinot Noir grape varieties. After years of dedication and working at high altitudes, the Batlliu winery... Sort It launched its first high mountain wines (from the 2010 and 2011 harvests and grown at 900 meters altitude): the Biu Negre (100% Pinot Noir) and the Biu Blanc (Pinot Noir and Viognier).
The winery is situated in a stunningly beautiful setting, surrounded by deciduous forests on the banks of the Noguera Pallaresa River and very close to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Batlliu de Sort offers a unique way to discover their project: a comprehensive experience, by prior reservation, that includes a visit to the vineyards, a mountain hike, and, as a grand finale, a wine and cheese pairing tasting featuring cheeses made by a local dairy.
